Can you believe it? We are now into the second half of Term 1 in the 2020/21 school year. PE certainly looks a little different at the moment, but with the weather now so good, we are able to really stretch those legs and have some fun!

I have been so impressed by the resilience shown by the whole school. Children are unfazed by the changes and have been keen to get stuck into any activities they can. After several months of reduced activity levels for many, the need to get active is greater than ever. I think that PE plays a huge part in this and is vital for children's wellbeing. The need for heart levels to be raised and fun to be had has never been so important.

Spending all our lessons on the field or netball courts allows us to maintain safe distance whilst still striving for our best and making progress. The children are spending the next half term focusing on athletics and ball skills. There will be real focus on improving fitness levels in Years 3-6 whilst also having fun and learning new skills. Bleep tests, basketball, football, throwing and jumping will all keep the children active, enthused, engaged, exhausted and excited!

Swimming is an area that we are hoping to reintroduce to the curriculum when we are permitted to do so. Obviously, we will keep you updated on this.

As we move into the cooler weather, I would like to encourage the whole DESS community (children and parents alike) to spend time outside playing, riding bikes, building sandcastles, throwing a frisbee, racing your brothers and sisters, kicking a football, playing hide and seek or anything else that is fun and gets you outside away from your iPad/TV or PS4.
