House Celebration
As we look forward to our upcoming Winter Holidays, The House Team feel that is it important to reflect upon the academic year so far and also celebrate the positivity and hard-work our students have displayed in the face of adversity. In order to facilitate this, all students have taken part in our ‘Let’s Be Social’ week. During which, students have had the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities that encourage them reflect and acknowledge the journey they have been on since August.
Throughout the week Desert, Earth, Sky and Coast House students all enjoyed the following:
- Giving Thanks – a morning to say thank you to the staff and / or students who have helped them, made them smile or kept them positive.
- Reflection Assembly – a virtual assembly that looked back over the life of the College and how we have all adapted to our ‘new normal’.
- Festive Quiz – a variety of friendly and recognisable faces form across the College quizzed the students on their knowledge of the festive period, 2020 current affairs and the UAE culture.
- Outdoor Activity – a morning where tutor groups went outside with their tutor in the cool weather to be a little active.
- Tutor’s Choice – during this time, students were able to enjoy an activity planned by their tutor ahead of the Winter Holidays.
Arguably, the activities listed above have encouraged both the staff and students to reflect upon the first term of this academic year with a smile on their faces. Hopefully, feeling grateful that we have made it this far with such a success; a true reflection of the determined and cohesive culture we have here at DESC.
House Awards
Over the last term, our students have faced challenges unlike anything they have encountered before. But it has been remarkable to see the how the students have continued to thrive throughout. Students ongoing commitment to Moral Education is helping to develop them into well rounded, kind-natured individuals. During PE lessons, students have begun to take part in a number of sporting House Events, giving them an opportunity to represent their Houses. Commitment, hard work and determination in lessons continues to be shown through the large number of Positive Reward comments written by teachers.
At the end of another extremely successful, yet busy, half term, the House Team have taken time to reward one student, from each form, who has epitomised what we believe all our students should strive for. This is reflective of their demeanor, manners, attitude and effort. We would like to take this time to congratulate all of the students for their hard work and ongoing commitment to the culture here at DESC.
As we are also at the end of the first term the House Team have each chosen one student from KS3 and another KS4 to be awarded Student of the Term. The awards have been given to students for a variety of reasons, but all winning students continue to be role models for others on a day-to-day basis. It is with great pleasure that we award these students and thank them for everything they do here at DESC.
The House Team would like to take this opportunity to thank parents and students for all of their support over the past few weeks and months. We hope you all have a fantastic holiday and we look forward to opening the atrium doors to Desert, Earth, Sky and Coast in January 2021.
