PE & Sport in Term 1 2020

It’s been another amazing term of Physical Education and Sport at DESS, despite the obvious hurdles we’ve had to encounter along the way. Your children have shown remarkable determination to work on improving their skills and fitness after such a long period away from school and we honestly can’t thank them enough for all their hard work in lessons and ECAs.
Some of the PE and Sport highlights this term have been:
- The children taking part in the Dubai 1km Challenge with several DESS students topping the leaderboard for fastest runners in their age group across Dubai. Congratulations to all the children who took part in this incredible virtual event!
- The Dubai 30x30 Fitness Challenge which encouraged many DESS families to exercise for 30 minutes each day! A great way to ensure you keep the momentum going this holiday is to take part in Miss Waugh’s “12 Days of Fitness”. This will also be uploaded to Seesaw before the end of term for each child to take part in!
- The return of Sporting ECAs this term saw our amazing athletes back on the pitch and courts before and after school, bringing with them a real sense of the DESS community spirit. It’s been great to see so many children taking part in these sporting ECAs and we’re very excited to let you know that we are looking to expand the range of sports for your child in Term 2.
Swimming at DESS
In addition to all the amazing sporting activities, would also like to make an important plea to all DESS parents to ensure that your child is keeping up their skills in the swimming pool whilst we are currently unable to offer swimming lessons during school hours. Swimming is such an important safety and survival skill for your child, that our swim teachers have put together some guidelines to encourage you to monitor your child’s swimming progress. Please read the Swimming at DESS letter which outlines the minimum DESS standards for swimming at each age group and also includes contact details for several Dubai swimming clubs, including OAKS which are based at DESC.
Finally, on behalf of the entire DESS PE Department we would like to wish you and your families a peaceful and relaxing winter break and a very happy new year! We look forward to seeing you all again in 2021 for lots more fun and exciting PE lessons, ECAs and hopefully a sports fixture or two!
Yours in Sport,
DESS PE Department
