COBIS Coding Competition

Together with Discovery Education, COBIS (Council of British International Schools) invited British international schools to compete with their peers around the world to create their own app. Using Discovery Education Coding, children gained a firm understanding of coding concepts like algorithms, sequences and variables – whilst they practised computational thinking through problem-solving and the breaking down of tasks into logical steps.
Using the skills they had developed, students created an app based on one of the two briefs, 'Create a Maze' or 'Create a Working Tool'. COBIS received 450 apps from 42 schools, with the judges being overwhelmed by the quality of submissions.
This year, the competition was run remotely with selected DESS@Home classes and the older Digital Leaders.
We are pleased to announce our very own student, Tanish received first place in the Create a Maze (for students aged 5-7) category. Well done Tanish, we are all super proud of you.
"The standard shown by all children who entered was high and we are incredibly proud of their creativity and problem-solving skills. It is fantastic to see Tanish's strength in programming recognised by his achievement in this prestigious competition." said Andrea Harrow, Computer Studies Leader.
